SUCCESSFUL RACE 1 FOR BORKOVIĆ IN MONZA

Despite all the limitations Serbian race car driver finished 5th in race 1 and is now 2nd in the overall standings.

The best Serbian race car driver Dušan Borković is only 3 races away from another milestone in his racing career. He finished 5th in race 1 of TCR Europe today on Monza circuit, he scored 10 new points and is still in the top in the overall standings. Borkovic’s fight for the championship will be a hard task from this point on.

Hyundai cars are the heaviest, highest and with the least engine power this weekend after the latest BOP/Compensation weight.

From the start, it was apparent that Monza will be a challenge. Borkovic fought hard in the qualifying session. He qualified 6th and will start race 2 on Sunday from the 5th position.

At the beginning of the race 1 with 28 cars grid there was a lot of contacts and duels that marked the first corner. Borkovic managed to keep his position and continued to fight for more points. There were two incidents in the race and a considerable time with the safety car on the track. Borkovic managed to overtake Tassi and reach P5 for 10 new points.

Azcona is in the lead after this race with 10 points more than Dusan. The winner of the race 1 Vernay is now in the 3rd place in the overall standings and 14 points behind Borkovic.

"I couldn’t do better with this BOP. I couldn’t keep up with other car brands on the straights. This is the best I could do today, the fact that I was the only Hyundai in the top ten shows that. I will start 5th tomorrow and I am hoping to have a clean turn 1 and fight for more points. I have to drive smart especially in the first corner because there are too many cars on the grid. The title will definitely be decided in Barcelona. I want to thank Target, Hyundai motorsport, Serbia and all of my fans", Borkovic said after the race 1.

The next race of TCR Europe in Monza will be on Sunday 23. Of September at 12:10 CET.
