Borkovic scores 12 points at the season opener in Bahrain Featured

Current FIA ETCC champion Dusan Borkovic had a great start of his debut TCR international season on Bahrain international circuit. B3 racing team driver in his Seat Leon scored 12 points after the first day of competition in the qualifying session (4 points) and the race 1 (8 points). Serbian champion had the best time in the first qualifying session, and p2 in the second.

Borkovic started from the first row from the second position in the first race behind Sergey Afanasiev. Due to the bad start caused by the setup change, Dusan lost his position and emerged 8th. When Borkovic started to catch up with his competitors he had an accident with Comini who pushed Dusan at Vernay and Borkovic’s car was damaged in this crash. All the wheels and aerodynamics got distorted. It stopped Dusan from reaching a better position in the race. After the duel Dusan was in the 6th position till the end of the race.

“I am satisfied with the start of the TCR season. Although we don’t have all the data about the car, tyres and the track we did our best as a team to make a better setup than for the free practices. I am very pleased with the second place in Q2 because I am competing against great drivers, 6 of us were in .1 of a second. I knew it would be challenging to start from p2 because behind me were all the aggressive drivers like Oriola, Morbideli, Homola. I had a problem at the start and it cost me my position.

I am satisfied with 12 points won, the season is long and the most important thing is to get as much points as possible per weekend and to keep improving.”

Dusan’s teammate Attila Tassi had to miss qualifying and the races because of the crash in free practice 2 when he hit the wall and destroyed the chassis of his Seat. Although Serbian champion made a great time in free practices yesterday the priority was to get familiar with the track and to work on the setup. There was not enough time to find the perfect setup for this circuit, but Dusan and his teammates worked together to do their best.

Dusan will start the second race from the ninth place tomorrow at 13:30h CET.
