Borkovic had an accident at the rally in Croatia

The best Serbian race car driver Dusan Borkovic and his co-driver Igor Markovic had an accident at the rally in Zagreb, Croatia. Borkovic and Markovic hit a tree at the speed of 97 kilometers per hour, but fortunately they were not seriously injured.

Borkovic had a great start to the 48th edition Ina Delta Rally in his Skoda R5 Evo2. From the very beginning, it was evident that Borkovic and his co-driver were one of the fastest crews at the rally and that they will have a big fight with the Slovenian driver Rok Turk. Already during the shakedown, Borkovic was the fastest ahead of the Turk and the Austrian Simon Wagner.

On Saturday, in addition to the shakedown, two special stages were held in Jastrebarsko, not far from Zagreb. During the first of a total of eight specials, Borkovic and Turk had almost identical time, the Slovenian was one tenth faster and a big fight was expected for the rest of the rally.

From the very start of the rally in Zagreb, the audience was delighted with the new rivalry between the two great aces in the FIA European Rally Trophy.

The very demanding rally, which was partially held where FIA World Rally Championship(WRC) in Croatia was held in April, completely suited the driving style of Borkovic who drove masterfully during the second stage and gained almost three seconds of advantage over Turk before the crash.

Borkovic seemed as he increased his advantage over his competitors, but then the accident happened. Borkovic lost traction on the dirty part of the road and hit straight into the tree at a speed of 97 kilometers per hour. The ambulance team reacted quickly, the Serbian crew was taken to the hospital for detailed examinations, and luckily they suffered no serious injuries.

With a lot of luck and because of the great safety of the car and safety equipment, Borkovic and Markovic avoided serious injuries, even though fractures of the collarbone and ribs were suspected for both of them. Still, they couldn’t continue to compete on Sunday due to the excessive car damage.

On the second day of the rally, there were six more stages on the program. The total length of the itinerary during this year's rally in the capital of Croatia was 533 kilometers, with 155 kilometers of stages.

After a more than successful decade in the World and European championships on the circuit tracks, Borkovic decided to continue his career in rally this season. From September 23 to 25th, our best race car driver will drive Serbia Rally again, which he won in 2019 and 2020. Borkovic will be one of the biggest favorites for the third victory in his career at most important race car competition in Serbia. Nis Petrol racing team will be supported by the Eurosol team from Hungary, with whom Borkovic has already won the two titles at the Serbia Rally.
