THE BEST SERBIAN CAR DRIVER: ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AND DRIVING ARE LEADING STRAIGHT TO DISASTER

Dušan Borković and the Road Safety Agency at the Seminar with drivers whose driving license has been revoked.

Serbian race car driver Dušan Borkovic in the company of the director of the Agency for Road safety Branko Stamatović attended the Seminar for improving knowledge for drivers whose driving license has been revoked due to negligent driving. As a promoter of safe driving, the best Serbian race car driver, spoke with the participants of the seminar that the streets are not racetracks and that you don't get behind the wheel after consumption of even the smallest amount of alcohol.

Statistical data show that in in the period from 2012 to July 2022, the most revoked licenses for driving were from DUIs and in the second place due to speeding.

"Every day I witness fast driving on the streets, unfortunately also passing through red light, but I must admit that I am unpleasantly surprised by the number of drivers whose license were revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Driving under the influence affects vision, hearing, reduces the ability to make decisions and all that together while driving leads straight to disaster. The Agency's data show that from of the total number of violations of driving under the influence of alcohol, as many as 37.8% of them in the state of severe or very severe alcoholism, and 5.8% in a state of complete intoxication. This is a very important topic and I want to educate young people, who most often participate in such events of violations, in order to prevent them from getting behind the wheel even after one drink,"  said Borkovic.

From the data of the Agency for Road Safety, it can be concluded that the a typical driver whose driver's license was revoked is a man with a high school diploma at at the threshold of his forties, who often drives under the influence of alcohol. It is interesting that when looking at gender structure of drivers, among those who remained without a license 98% of them are men.

"Penalty points were introduced by the Law on Road Safety in 2009. Driver who collects 18 penalty points within two years loses his driver's license. The only way to get it again is to pass the Knowledge Enhansment Seminar for negligent drivers organized by the Road Safety Agency. After the lectures, the exam is taken and only then the permit is returned", explained Branko Stamatović.

Out of over 10,000 drivers who attended the seminar and passed the safety exam traffic, so far less than 1% of them have reported to the Agency for the second time attending the seminar because their driver's license was taken away again, and in 2022, for the first time, a driver applied for the third time. Among the trainees seminar since 2012, there were also 17 people with PhDs.
